Our pledge to you
We respect your privacy. Any personal information you share with us is held with care. We don't sell, rent, loan or transfer any of it to unrelated third parties. Information you give us about yourself won't be used in ways you haven't agreed to. What we collect on this site is used by Period Dealer and, in limited cases, by service providers who are bound by confidentiality agreements. We don't collect personal information about visitors unless you specifically and knowingly give it to us — things like your name, address, email, and phone number.
Use and control of your information
We use the information collected on our site for two main things. First, to improve the site itself, by looking at which pages and features are most popular. Second, to let visitors join our mailing list, sign up to the period blood donation waitlist, or get in touch with us directly. If we ever want to collect information for a different purpose, we'll tell you at the point we ask. You can stop receiving emails from us at any time by clicking the unsubscribe link at the bottom of any message we send.
How we handle your data
When you fill in a form on this site — whether it's the mailing list sign-up, the donation waitlist, or the contact form — the information goes into the platforms we use to run the business. That means Squarespace, which hosts the site, our email provider for mailing list signups, and our inbox for direct messages. These providers process your data on our behalf under written agreements, and we've picked them because they meet UK and EU data protection standards.
We don't pass your information on to anyone else for marketing. We don't sell it, and we don't share it with partners, sponsors, or researchers. If that ever changes, for example if a specific research project needs to contact waitlist members, we'll ask you first.
Your data is stored on servers located in the UK, EU, and US, depending on the provider. Where data moves outside the UK, we rely on the safeguards built into our providers' contracts (standard contractual clauses or equivalent) to keep it protected to UK standards.
How long we keep your data
We don't keep information forever. Here's roughly how long we hold different things:
Mailing list signups: for as long as you're subscribed. If you unsubscribe, we remove you from active lists but may keep a suppression record so we don't accidentally email you again.
Waitlist signups (period blood donation): until you ask us to remove you, or until the waitlist is closed and archived. The waitlist itself is just a list of people who've expressed interest. No donor data is collected at this stage.
Contact form enquiries: up to two years after our last exchange, unless the conversation turns into something ongoing.
Website analytics: Squarespace retains analytics data according to its own published retention schedule (generally up to two years for visitor-level data).
If you want your data removed sooner, just email us at perioddealer@gmail.com.
Cookies
We use a feature of your web browser called a "cookie" to make your visit smoother. We do not and cannot use cookies to pull personal information off your computer. The cookies we use are set by Squarespace, which hosts this site, and they fall into a few categories:
Essential / functional
Keeps the site working. Things like remembering what's in your basket, keeping you logged in if you have an account, and basic security. Data kept for the specific session, or up to 2 years.
Analytics (Squarespace built-in)
Counts visitors, tracks which pages are most popular, and helps us understand how people move through the site. This is aggregated, so we don't see individual visitors. Data kept for up to 2 years.
Testing / performance
Helps Squarespace run A/B tests and measure site speed. Data kept for the specific session, or up to 2 years.
We don't use third-party advertising cookies, retargeting pixels, or tracking from ad networks. If you want to block cookies, you can do it through your browser settings. The site will still work, though some features may not behave as smoothly.
For the full technical detail on Squarespace cookies, you can check Squarespace's own cookie policy: squarespace.com/cookie-policy.
Your data rights
Your information is handled under UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018. That means you have the right to ask what we hold about you, to correct it if it's wrong, to ask us to delete it, and to object to how we're using it. If you want to exercise any of these rights, email us and we'll sort it out. You can also complain to the ICO (ico.org.uk) if you feel we haven't handled your data properly, though we'd always prefer you come to us first.
Security
Your experience is safe and secure. We use up-to-date encryption, strong password protections, and tight limits on who can access your information. This is to guard against anyone getting at your data who shouldn't.
A note on period blood donation
Joining the waitlist on this site just adds you to a list of people interested in donating period blood. It doesn't sign you up as a donor, and it doesn't collect any donor data.
When a donation opportunity becomes available and you decide to go ahead, you'll click through to Blake Health Ltd, a separate company we work with on the research side. The donor sign-up happens on Blake Health's own website, and from that point onward their privacy policy applies, not this one. You'll be asked to complete a full donor consent form through Blake Health, which explains what happens to your sample, how your data is used, how long it's kept, and what your rights are as a donor.
So to be clear: the waitlist is ours. The donor consent and biobanking is Blake Health's, on their domain. Nothing moves from one to the other without you actively opting in.
